
The Group employs more than 500 people, most of them in the Democratic Republic of the Congo .
The Head Office, CHANIC SA (Belgium), is financed privately in Europe to permit refinancing of activities in the DRC. The functions of management control, human resources, co-ordination of purchases etc are undertaken in Brussels.
In the DRC, the CHANIC group basic trading activities are:
- the construction and repair of river vessels in its shipyard in Kinshasa;
- metal construction (roofs, bridges, armorplating, safes etc);
- the exploitation of a foundry and the fabrication of mechanical parts ;
- the representation, delivery and maintenance of mining plant equipment, MGB and handling.
The CHANIC group has an active industrial site of 11 hectares on the banks of the river Congo, one of the last industrial sites and naval construction in Central Africa. Its computerized Bureau d’etudes has unrivalled technical facilities to ensure the production and commissioning of new fluvial vessels of high quality as well as the modification, maintenance and repair of older vessels.
Chanic’s main clients are governmental corporations in the watershed of the river Congo,( the DRC, Congo Brazzaville, the Central African Republic..), transporters of persons or goods , companies carrying out maintenance of the River, co-operation projects such as the BTC-Belgian technical cooperation agencies. In addition to its strictly naval activity and metal construction, recent years have seen redevelopment of its “Cooler and lifts” division, “Chanitec”,which distributes the brand products of Schindler and Trane, and its importation activity of equipment by its division “Chanic Equipments”, distributor of prestige brands such as Doosan, Shantui (construction machinery ) , Dagartech ( generators ) , engines Baudouin (marine engines), Yale (materials and handling-lifting systems) and Hempel ( marine paint )
